Greetings, all! Keith Mulvihill here. I’m a freelance writer and editor living in Manhattan, and I am thrilled to be joining ReadyMade’s ever-growing stable of bloggers. Although there are many, many things I love about my hometown, I also love getting as far away from it as possible (as often as I can). It’s not always easy, what with work and pesky budgetary constraints that can wreak havoc on my grand schemes (did I mention that I’m a freelance writer?). Still, some of the highlights from the past year include backpacking in Zion National Park (pictured), a road trip in West Texas and numerous forays into upstate New York.
In this blog, I’ll share my best ideas for getting out and about, and will help you discover inspiring escapes that are also affordable.
I confess that I tend to be a planner, which doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy being spontaneous: when a more intriguing opportunity comes along, I love shifting plans on a moment’s notice. But I find that arranging a few things in advance helps avoid wasting precious travel time and often increases my odds of having more fun while I’m away.
I’m guessing that most ReadyMade readers–endowed with the DIY spirit–don’t need much hand-holding, but if you think I’ve given any topic short shrift, or you just want more details, don’t be shy! Please post your comments and questions. And, this being the Era of Social Networking, by all means, let me know where you’ve been and where you’re going. With a little luck, we’ll all spend a little more time away this year.

Love Love Love this writer’s blogs…… amazing shots and the detailed writing pulls you in and, with eyes closed, you might even believe you are in such a place! I am familiar with this writer’s work and you will not be let down by any of his ideas for “getting out and about”. Even if you don’t actually get out and do anything, at least, read the blogs and you’ll feel as if you had.
