Kiwis are a fruit often associated with New Zealand, but did you know they’re actually native to East Asia? Each furry fruit is loaded with antioxidants and has about one and half times the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. These giant green berries also contain a potent enzyme that breaks down proteins, making kiwi the perfect natural meat tenderizer. Just mash up half a kiwi and add it into your favorite marinade.
Because they’re small and soft, they can be a little tough to peel without making a mess, but here’s a fool-proof way to get all the green goodness out of every kiwi.

First, slice the kiwi in half between the two ends

Then, slide a small spoon between the skin and the flesh and gently turn the kiwi to separate the fruit from the fuzzy skin.

I just use a potato peeler. Works pretty well and doesn’t waste very much of the actual fruit.
Are kiwis in season now? My mouth is salivating just looking at your photos…
I peel the same way. I often pack a kiwi just cut in half in my lunch and take a spoon and eat it out of the peel. People are always shocked to see me eat it like that, but it is the easiest and most efficient I have found.
Like Fern, I use a potato peeler too. I find it works better than the spoon method. I cut off both ends, then peel away!
I normally eat them with the skin on. Sounds bizarre, I know, but it works.
I never thought of spooning it out! This looks much easier than peeling. Can’t wait until my kiwis get ripe.

I had a friend from New Zealand who laughed at me when I peeled my kiwi. She said you just eat the skin just like an apple, the skin has more nutrients. I wash them and brush some of the fine fuzz off and voila.
