Presenting…The Pin Pals!

Seen above are a small selection of the cross-stitched accessory offerings of Montreal, Canada’s Pin Pals, aka Samantha Purdy and Sara Guindon.  Each gal has her own creative strong suit:  Sam is the stitcher, working with thread and vintage textiles, while Sara is an illustrator, who turns her drawings into paper toys or prints them on clothing (you can get a gander at the former here).

I’m totally into their work because it’s incredibly sweet, undeniably feminine, a little old-fashioned (probably because of the use of cross-stitch as a medium) but at the same time very “now,” due to their deft and irreverent use of color and motif.  Each piece is a tiny little hand-worked bit of happiness you can hang from your ears, attach to your blouse, blazer, or coat, or dangle from your neck…I know that wearing any of their pieces would put a big smile on my face all the day long.  I can totally see those folky buttons decorating a plain, possibly handmade dress…and totally stealing the show!

Thank-you so much for this feature! You are right on the money about the buttons being intended for cute vintage or handmade dresses, in fact we’re starting to collect some pieces for future photo shoots!

  4. [...] was totally inspired by my previous post about the Pin Pals, and it got me trolling around for more needlepoint or cross-stitch emblazoned [...]
