A Better Use of Indestructible Marshmallow Chicks: Peep Wreath Tutorial

Busy crafter Vanessa of Gerbera Designs came up with this hilarious project, and was kind enough to share the tutorial on her blog, Tried and True. All you need is nine packs of Peeps, a wreath, and some serious spring attitude!

When all is said and done, making a wreath out of Peeps seems infinitely smarter than eating them. According to a bunch of experiments done by Emory University scientists, Peeps are insoluble in acetone, water, sulfuric acid, or sodium hydroxide. And their eyes? Well, the scientists claimed those beady little brown dots “wouldn’t dissolve in anything.”

I won’t lie to you, my friends; even with the above knowledge, a few sickly-sweet marshmallow birds might escape into my mouth during the course of this project. Would you eat a Peep? Have you ever successfully destroyed one? Share your Peep tales in the comments.

thats hilarious!! we don’t have peeps in australia, i’m pretty sure that level of food color is outlawed here.

  3. Rachel says:

She is so fabulously awesome. I bet if I hung this in my house I’d find a few gnawed off heads before the day wass over.

  4. Polly Conway says:

No Peeps in Australia? Pilgrim, you haven’t lived until you’ve been desperate enough to eat a Peep that’s been sitting in your Easter basket for two months.

(Actually, they’re kind of good stale. Yes, I know I have a problem.)

  5. Condo Blues says:

I can’t stand peeps. If the Easter Bunny puts them in my basket this year, I’m going to use them to make s’mores. Which might be good actually.

  6. Elizabeth says:

mmmmm….peeps….I’m so using this tutorial to make one as soon as peeps hit the shelves at my local target

  7. Vanessa says:

Yippee, I’m so glad you liked the tutorial! Definitely smarter to use them for decoration than digestion. :D

  8. Polly Conway says:

Condo Blues, that sounds delicious. In my dreams the Peep sugar will caramelize, not burn. Oh, Peeps. So wrong, yet so right.

And Vanessa, you’ve set the world afire with this amazing wreath! Thanks so much for letting me share it. :)

  9. Sylvia says:

Vanessa, I love this idea. Peeps have been a staple in my home since I was a kid every easter my mom can’t wait to buy loads of the stuff. I will definitely be making this, Thank you for the wonderful idea.

    I linked to you.
Somewhere on line you can find a video of peep-jousting, and I think there’s a “Lord of the Peeps.”
    Issues? Me?

  12. trish says:

We like to microwave them. You’ve never seen a peep till you’ve seen it grow to the size of a grapefruit! I know they are the most unhealthy treat in the basket, but hey, we all have our vices…

  13. Stephanie says:

Haha! This seems like a much better idea than just sticking them in the microwave. I’ll have to try crafting with my peeps next year.

  14. Hi, i must say fantastic blog you have, i stumbled across it in Google. I bought myself the R-230KK Microwave. I just love the way the Convection Oven works.
